I rose this morning to the usual myriad of thoughts over several injustices in Nigeria, pointedly unresolved cases of murder, and hypocrisy of our leaders. I first remembered Bola Iges gruesome murder. When Ige was killed, the progressives were convinced it was state sponsored (Obasanjo had hands in it). That much was later confirmed by Late Lam Adesina. Ige was a Pan Yoruba nationalist and leader, well loved and brilliant. He loved Yoruba so much that when he had pressed for prosecution of suspects over a bribery case, he had to soft pedal on hearing Mike Adenuga was involved ( The Accidental Public Servant, N. El Rufai). But the then AD governors who had denigrated PDP and Obasanjo, and still do, over the Ige Murder later entered into an electoral accord with Obasanjo saying they did it for their love for Yoruba. Thats not just unwise but hypocrisy and betrayal of the highest order because you had labelled Obj anti Yoruba having worked against Awo and killed Bola Ige. Our leaders compromise principle when pursuing selfish ends; then harp on sectional and ethnic sentiments which dont really matter to them. And I stumbled on OAU martyrs, George Iwilade Afrika and the other 4, who, on July 10 1999, were murdered by members of black axe confraternity, believed to be sponsored by the VC Prof. Wale Omole. He was indeed indicted by Justice Etam Okom Panel set by FG, but was allowed to go scot free even though late Ige was the AGF then. Yet another hypocrisy! Wale Omole was recently appointed LAUTECH Pro Chancellor by Govs Ajimobi and Aregbesola which brought to questioning the conscience and moral sanctity of the govs especially Aregbesola whom Ife students supported very much and had their leader Akinola Saburi imprisoned in the struggle to win his mandate from PDP gangs in Osun. Several petitions, from Lanre Adeleke Legacy, the 1999 OAU SUG President and eye witness who escaped by whiskers, Education Rights Council among others. Yet these governors remain adamant. Thats utterly unjust and smacks of insentivity to the agony the parents of the victims, their colleagues and entire OAU community who hold as atrocious, inhumane, disservice and criminal Omoles stint as OAU VC. But dont you notice a law of Kamar and law natural retributive justice? Under Iges watch as Attorney General of the Federation, Prof Wale Omole went scot free inspite of strong evidences of his culpability and indictment by Justice Etam Okon Panel. Nobody faced wrath of law over the murder! Iges murderers too are yet to be brought to justice. As I started to get to MKOs murder by the state in alliance with the international community, particularly the US, Mum called and had to leave bed. But said to myself: everybody with culpability in MKOs murder shall one day face natural law of retributive justice. Good morning. Lets be just and fair.
