I saw where my friend Danny McGraw and some folks were having a conversation at the kitchen table (porch too cold) about shiftless folks; presumably folks who were not particularly interested in participating in the work force. Well it reminded me of an old WV store and so here goes: Three boys, one from southern Ohio, one from east Kentucky and one from West Virginia were playing and decided to have a contest to see which one could throw a big sledge hammer the farthest. Well the Ohio boy slung it about half-way across a huge corn field. Howd ye git so strong they asked. My dad had a farm in Ohio and I just got stout from all the hard work with big hay bales and such. The Kentucky boy threw the big hammer almost all the way across the big corn field. Howd you git so stout they asked. My daddy had a junk yard in Kentucky and I got strong handling all those motor blocks, transmissions and stuff. Well the boy from West Virginia threw the big hammer all the way across the corn field, across the road beside it and all the way out into the middle of the big river. Wow, they said, how did you get so stout? He said, well my daddy wuz from West Virginia and wuz on welfare all his life and he always told me if anybody ever handed me a tool to throw that SOB as far as you can throw it! :-)
