I see Steve has posted without the story a good picture (copy above) showing the 3 nice Grizzly Bears we disturbed. -– On the 7th day of our backpack we saw the Grizzly Bear warning sign on Wonder Pass but were not worried as we had been told that the bears were “in lower elevations eating berries.” So we dropped our packs and headed up toward a lookout. Steve ambled along in the lead watching rocks in the trail. I was about 100 feet behind, looking up I saw 3 Grizzlies standing tall in the trail about 50 yards ahead of him. I yelled “Steve look up.” When he did his grizzled, unshaven face scared the bears off the trail. They continued running up the mountain about 75 yards off the trail beside us. After pictures we suddenly realized they were headed straight toward our backpacks. Hurrying back we saw they had ignored them and were headed on over the mountain to see if there were good berries on the other side.
