I see that many of you have seen my new profile picture and cover photo. I went to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for my 20th birthday. I got a behind-the-scenes birthday present from my dad and it was so incredible. My profile picture is me and a red panda (Ailurus fulgens) and my cover photo is me and a Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis). Here are pictures of both and two more species, a Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) and an Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) for you guys to see. A fact for each for all of you to know too! Bactrian camel To tell Bactrian camels apart from dromedary camels, Bactrian camels have two humps and dromedaries have one. Just think of a B for Bactrian on the Bactrian camels back and a D for Dromedary on a dromedarys back. red panda Although the red panda is sometimes called the lesser panda, it is actually the original panda. It was discovered in 1825, nearly 50 years before the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). Sumatran rhinoceros There are 4 other different species of rhinos in the world. They are the white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum), the black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis), the Javan rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus), and the Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis). The Sumatran rhinoceros is the smallest and in fact, the rarest in captivity. There are now fewer than 100 of them left in the wild. Asian elephant Asian elephants are very different from the two African species. African bush and forest elephants --- have large ears that are shaped like the continent of Africa; both males and females have visible tusks; their skin is very wrinkly; their back is swayed; and the end of their works as if they have two fingers there to help them pick things up. Asian elephants ---have smaller ears which are shaped like the country of India, only males have visible tusks; their skin is not as wrinkly; they only have one finger at the ends of their trunk; and their back is dome-shaped.
