I sincerely believe that Facebook is the best and worst invention - TopicsExpress

I sincerely believe that Facebook is the best and worst invention ever. Awesome to keep up with friends and family, and horrible to see some of the things people actually think and then post. Some of the comments Ive seen on Robin Williams suicide make me cringe. zero sympathy. shouldnt even mention it because he wasnt a veteran. cowardly way out. selfish. Anyone who has sunken into a depression so deep that they cant find their way out - to the point that they are past the #1 instinct above all (survival!) - was fighting a battle that no one but them can understand. Its a battle so strong that theyre often WAY past the ability to see outside it. For him, not fame, not wealth, not family, nothing was enough to overcome that internal battle. Most of us at one time or another have hit a low where we at least lightly contemplated it. I can think of a couple times myself way back when. Luckily I was strong enough to get past it. But some peoples struggles are too much; or it hits them at an especially weak point; or maybe they were just too drunk or high at the time to rationally stop the urge. To think you have the right to judge them is just beyond me. Whatever their reason or situation, they paid for it dearly - with their life. And they deserve a decent remembrance, not a final stab in the back. Also, just because he was a celebrity, some out there think he somehow doesnt deserve simple respect. Seems to me the man did a lot of good to bring happiness and smiles to peoples lives. People enjoyed him. He was a fixture in peoples lives. He was a hell of a philanthropist and gave a ton of his time to things like the USO. He seemed like a thoughtful and kind man. In the end, he found something dark and painful he couldnt beat. Give him a break.
