I spent a long and difficult day with my mom today. She is rapidly turning into someone else, uninterested in the world around her, giving up her core of steel, obsessed with time and fretting over minutiae, angry with her loss of control. I admit Im not the most patient of people, but this experience is making me see my own shortcomings, not hers. As we get closer to the date of her cataract surgery, set for the 14th, it is a race against time. I want to see her safely through the surgery and recovery period, and then the plan is that she will move in with my sister and brother-in-law in Texas. But she seems to be on a rapidly-accelerating downward spiral, needing me more. I am grateful for the prayers of family and friends, for the support of everyone who has already gone through this.
