I spoke with a co-worker yesterday who told me that her former church and preacher tried hard to discourage her and the congregation from getting an education. He must have skipped Romans 12:2, I quipped. She had the presence of mind to leave that church for another with more sound doctrine. While there are many good ministers out there and its true that college is not for everyone, any religious or political leader who discourages their followers from improving their lives is suspect. False leaders like that try to keep their followers as poor and uneducated as possible because desperate people are easier to control.
