I stood among the remains of the once great city of Koronston. The - TopicsExpress

I stood among the remains of the once great city of Koronston. The city was once filled with life and prosperity, but now, it was nothing more than a catastrophic ruin. Its once great buildings had long since collapsed. Its farms that once flourished with green, were merely a barren eye sore. It was centuries ago when this great city’s downfall began. I was young, a meager eight years of age. What I saw, stayed with me forever. It was a bright summer day, my mother was in the kitchen, baking bread for me to sell at the market in town. My father was out in the field, harvesting the fresh bounty of crops. I sat on a tree stump in our yard, we lived on the outskirts of the city, about half a mile from the large stone walls. It was a peaceful, clean-aired, place. Everything was normal that day, its funny, how one second life can be just as it always has been, and at the drop of a hat, all hell can break loose. We could see the smoke coming our way, at first we thought the forest was ablaze, it’d happened many times before. But this was different, when we saw the fire, it burned a brilliant white. My father came running back from the field, axe in hand, his shirt stained with blood. “Honey!” He called to my mother. “Take Kane and get to the city, HURRY!” My mother came running from the kitchen, without question she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the path in the forest the would lead to the city gate. “Dad! Aren’t you coming!?” I yelled to him. I could see the tears in his eyes as he caught my gaze. “Go Kane, keep your mother safe. I love you, both of you.” Just as my mother pulled me onto the path, I heard my father scream, not in agony, but in anger. “Mom, will dad be okay?” I asked weakly. She couldn’t face me, we just kept running.
