I stopped at McDonalds last night for a $1 Drink. I asked for a large and realize the drinks have now been raise to $1.49 plus tax and the cups were a tad bit smaller... I thought ok, maybe the taxes went up to help put a halt on over indulging on sugary products... Not! The taxes havent changed but of course the price has. These corporate companys know how addiction works. Similar to the drug game... The price is lowered for a taste, but once hooked, most will return to spend whatever to get what they want. Until the habit is broken that is. Truth is, the drink wasnt for me, but for my oldest daughter and the dilemma, I had already pulled into the parking lot, sat in line, made the order, and waste some time. At the time my dollar was out, my change was near, but my thoughts were... Damn, when did the price increase? Oh well I guess I just go ahead and get anyway, Im here! Where as I probably couldve just left and returned to the gas station across the street from where I just came from and purchased a 2 liter for about .20 more. What would you have done? a. Just got the drink at McDonalds b. Went back to gas station and bought 2 liter c. Left without buying anything d. Bought the small drink for $1 On a different note. Listen how Robert Reich breaks down how Coke and Pepsi spends millions of dollars to keep the taxes from increasing. From my example above, you can see how theyre able to make those millions back... and then some!
