I support the County Devt Boards chaired by Senators... I am happy the law on County Development Boards has passed and been assented to by the President. The Senators will chair the County Development Boards. This is an important step and reaction to implementation of devolution in Kenya. The expectation was that County leaders - Governor, Senator, Women Rep, Mps and MCAs would hold regular consultations on matters of their Counties especially on development to ensure that the minimal resources are best applied for the benefit of the county residents on top priority issues and in a co-ordinated manner. This was not to be! As a first time Mp I have been surprised at how difficult it is for leaders to consult.... We have to be obligated by law to form a consultative forum, consult and share information.... Its amazing how difficult it is to get as basic a document as the County budget! There was no other way to get openness and accountability in our Counties.... County Devt Boards create an oversight mechanism for the Senators and Mps... The Boards do not take away the powers of County Assemblies to approve budgets. I cant wait for our Nyeri County Development Board seeing as we have a great Senator.... I will be able to play my role of women rep better looking at matters that affect women and other affirmative action groups.... water, health, education etc... Together as Nyeri leaders consulting and working hard we will go far, that the law had to compel this is not a problem, we just need to move on... In Nyeri we need the County Devt Board....
