I suspect because our kids grew up during conditions of Freedom they know very little about shutting up their mouths.When i grew up in PE in 1978, security police came looking for my brother Richard Vukile Kota who crossed into exile as a high school.learner at Loyiso in Zwide.They harassed our family and neighbours flashing torches in the middle of the night even bribing kids with sweets asking us to tell them where my brother was for the better part of the 80s this harassment continued. i was 6 and my sister Nosipho was 4, I always told her Msekhaya, dnt forget Bhut Nuti has gone to Jhb to buy ornaments thats what my Mother told us to say.It was only when I was about 14 when I got involved in the PE Youth Congress that I Realized this was not true.I also learnt who in our area ( Boast Village) had crossed with my brother.So, growing up in a Repressive State in the late 70s as well as living through various State of Emergencies I learnt through the hard way the importance of shutting up your big mouth and keeping Confidential and secret information from.prying eyes and ears. With the Guesthouse shenanigans here since last week I realize that bringing up kids during Peace time has its challenges.The kids are too Trusting, over share information with strangers just because people Smile at them.They think everyone means well and often accuse me of being a bit distant and detached from situations.Yesterday when the armed mugging/ robbery took.place I stayed put at my guesthouse and resisted even going to find out because I know what it means to be framed for staged up situations.I also smell an inside job from miles away, because when you are 41 there are things that you know through Life. So this morning I had to sit Chichi Down and tell her the importance of keeping personal and family information confidential. She,at 10 likes to project her Mom as a woman of means. Twice on separate occasions, the staffers here have asked for a bit of financial assistance for this or that problem. Twice, Litha over shared that I might look for help after we move out and before I knew it the Aunties here had lined up their friends for me to interview in the likelihood that I need help.Of course this has caused a slight tension as no one knows who I will choose.Least to say the events of the past week make me realize that I must still solicit my mothers services for the job of Recruiter in Command.Litha,.even asked how do I master the art of being friendly without being attached, I told him Life teaches you the Art Of Discernment ; Discretion and Deception. You need to know when and what D to use for which situation. It cannot be puré coincidence for my laptop to disappear last week and for the armed robbery to happen yesterday.
