I take a lot of risk in saying this out publicly, but lets call a spade a spade. Where were the moderate Malaysian muslims when the Boko Haram butchered their christian citizens and kidnapped school girls to be married off or converted to islam by force? Where were the moderate Malaysian muslims when the muslim rioters desecrated buddhist temple in southern Bangladesh 2 years ago? Where were the moderate Malaysian muslims when the Syrian and Yemeni refugees rioted in Sweden, a country generous enough to take them in from their war torn countries, giving them shelter, basic necessities and allowances to start life anew? Where were the moderate Malaysian muslims when Malala Yousofzai was shot in defiance of the taliban? Where are the hashtags, the public outcry, the elaborate fake tears, the melodrama, the hullabaloo? It hurts me to live in a culture of selective sympathy, which is religiously motivated and badly manipulated by the mass media.
