I taught my very first high school subject today to 9th graders. The experience was amazing to say the least. Teaching Greek Literature; Odyssey by Homer was a great way to begin a serious conversation with all 7 classes. I used the play about Odysseus to talk about the students own heroes or those who Inspire them. Furthermore, it provided an opportunity to teach the classes how to not to prejudge their fellow classmates as we shared deep truths of their childhoods and experiences. I was able to get all the 7 classes to begin learning about each other in a personal way, in which by the end of their classes students began getting deep between each other learning they were alike in so many ways. In result, they began to communicate with empathy and seeing the big picture...They learned with their own actions of learning how to break a cycle and using their determination and mind academic success is achievable. They learned their own actions if positive can become someones hero or inspiration to do the same. They learned like Odysseus with bravery and standing what you believe using your integrity people will see you in a positive light. Now, that is teaching in my opinion!
