I teach 100 undergraduates each semester, and I care deeply about their educational experience at UW. Though this university is also an exceptional learning environment for me as a PhD student, I often wish I had chosen to attend one of the schools depicted in this image. With such meager pay, I cannot afford the basic necessities of daily living. Paying fees in excess of $1100 each year out of this abysmal salary is insulting to the work I dedicate to my job. It also puts enormous stress on my ability to teach, conduct research, and make contributions to my discipline. I am not shy about pointing prospective PhD students towards this information. They have a right to know how little respect this university has for its graduate student employees.
