I the past two days I was fortunate enough to travel by road from Johannesburg to East London and back to Johannesburg. In the 19 hours that I drove across 3 provinces, listening to different radio stations punt election ads, hosting debates with various political parties, I got to see the faces of so many South Africans. Unfortunately not many of them were celebrating. It was a sad picture. Driving through the potholes of the Eastern Cape, the farms of the Free State and the city lights of Gauteng, most of what I witnessed was a people at a cross roads. Yes we have political freedom but economically, the struggle has not yet begun. The economic divide of this country is scary and unfortunately for the majority of the people it is getting worse. As I reflected on the 20 years of democracy, I realised that a political fight without an economic fight is not a solution for any people.
