I think Mr Muchenje had to walk on thin wire by being headmaster to the presidents son. He manipulated through landmined territory as he handled delicate issue after delicate issue. .I am sorry to say that there are people who do not like Bro Bernard Chirombe. I am not privy as to why this is so but i have noticed that people who have come under him as students in his functions as teacher, deputy head and now headmaster show more dislike to the man.I tell you guys i have come across so many unprintable names used for the good bro. I have had the pleasure of knowing all the other heads, some before they were headmasters, as a student, but i never came under the influence of Bro Chirombe in any way until we went back as a team of Koba in 2010. I have no reason to see how this animosity against the bro can be justified . When we drove into the college with Edwin Magoga, Leonard Usayi and Farai Makwembere , we found the ever jovial bro welcoming and the perfect host. Even on all the subsequent trips back to the school we have been welcomed with open arms. However as one takes a look at the picturesque Kutama from the church , an ugly defacing narration violates your sight. It stands out as a sore thumb. I dont know who commissioned that monstrosity and failure at providing proper signage. But surely the current head can do something about this , whether he was instrumental in its being there in the 1st place or not . Somebody actually said that sign inotoda kuvhurirwa docket . And you can guess what my friend Tere Rusir had to say about that sign. yeah , sign yeschool block iyo looks so unaesthetic zvairi izvo. And kawhiteness ako kari(ku) chemera for some good ol graffiti . I think its too big and is not at home with the tranquil setting. Kutama has now joined those exclusive colleges which have multi story classes and dormitories , state of the art ensuite facilities , state of the art confectionary manufacture (bakery) ,state of the art dining facilities , state of the art transport facilities , hotel quality food among other luxuries offered. They deserve a pum pum. When we toured the hostel just before its official opening, they told us that the hostel would house the exam classes. So to me that meant form 4s and 6s.The old A level complex then said to take form 3 and 5.Now imagine how sad i was to hear that the state of the art hostel for two students/room with ensuite facilities have been given to form 1 and 2.The A levels are now using junior hostel or hostel 1. It defies logic but i guess its just that i am in the dark about more details . Maybe it has something to do with acts of vandalism we witnessed evidence of. Whilst we are at that the traditional form 4 classes upstairs have been given to form 1s. I dont know the full magnitude of that effect on the psych. I think there is major experimentation going on trying to reinvent the wheel. That inherited problem of topping up the student population by those who can politically or monitarily maneuver the system has reached alarming proportions. I will give you a sad example. I will not give the name of the koba involved for obvious reasons. After failing to negotiate past bro Chirombe for his sons place, the old boy passed through a relatives place in the village on his way back home. Upon discovering why his relative had a dejected face, the village based relative assured the old boy that as long as he was willing to part with specified amount of dollars the villager would guarantee his son a place. The Kutama old boy extracted the specified amount and waited for the good part of an hour. The village relative returned with a beaming smile. He had managed to enrol the old boys son at Kutama. It would be wrong to say the bro took the cash maybe the villager took that as agent fees but whatever hold or sway he had over the man of God worked. On some Koba forum somebody said they have added an extra class and they have a form 1 enrollment with almost 200 students .They now eat in shifts at the dining hall.Somebody said way back then you could count the one from rich families but now they count ones from poor families .Another story i have come across is about a mischievous fellow who was sent home to bring their parent. Sure enough he went and came back with their parent. They say he came driving a c200 2012 version and the mother drove an E350 2013 version. The long and short of it is the mother donated 5000Us and there the matter rested. Now i know that they are saying the teachers only will get the textbook for their subject and students look for your own.The teachers maybe qualified but they too seem not to be motivated.I too am puzzled as to why the generation which has it all is performing the worst. Is it simply that these kids are drowning in pleasurable good living that they can not be bothered to read?A 40% passrate is failure. 25 students without 5cs.Unimaginable. Kutamas old boy and head Jachi should be turning in his grave...
