I think empathy is really important, and I think only when our clever brain and our human heart work together in harmony can we achieve our full potential. ~ Jane Goodall At the beginning of her career, visionary primatologist Jane Goodall was criticized for giving names to the chimpanzees she was observing. I was told: You have to give them numbers because you have to be objective as a scientist, and you mustn’t empathize with your subject. And I feel this is where science has gone wrong. To have this coldness, this lack of empathy, has enabled some scientists to do unethical behavior. It was precisely her ability to connect and empathize with her observation subjects, that enabled Dr. Goodall to do the groundbreaking work shes famous for, which eventually help revolutionize our understanding of social groups in primates & other animals. The culture of civilization - its capitalism and male supremacy - is founded on apathy. The culture of reformist, liberal, Big Eco civilization is all about perpetuating the industrial machine and its ecocide, misogyny, and slavery. The Deep Green Resistance analysis is that male domination over the land, women, indigenous peoples, and non-human species - in the form of the perpetual motion machine called industrial civilization - is at the root of apathy and geopolitical militarism. This machine must be dismantled, now! We have a self-defense strategy for the living earth, based in intelligence & empathy. Our resistance strategy is called Decisive Ecological Warfare.
