I think everyone has a song that is frozen for us. No matter how many new versions we hear, there is one rendition that is What We Hear when that song is mentioned, and every new effort is judged against Our Version. This is especially true of Celtic Folk Musicians. We each have our favorite songs, and we all have our favorite artists for our favorite songs. Im blessed that some of my favorite versions are performed by my friends. But there is one song we all sing that has a rendition that I will always deem to be Better. The Parting Glass is a simple, sad tune about regrets, loss, and celebrating our dearly departed. And I have never heard an offering of this song that captured both the joy and the loss at the same time so succinctly.
