I think most art reflects life, but comedy refracts it. In the 80s everyone was afraid of AIDS but comedians were filthy (Andrew Dice Clay, Eddie Murphy, Bob Sagat). In the 90s,it was all ecstasy, Monica Lewinsky, and Lollapalooza; hence the clean comics like Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Reiser, Sinbad, and Brett Butler. So if you really want a clean comedy renaissance, someone needs to go down on the president.
