I think one of the reasons I like to go to Burning Man is to see if I can build a shade structure that will withstand 70 mile an hour whiteouts in a post apocalyptic world (is that kinda weird?). The design has changed each year and this year was the best. Start with a sturdy 70% or more shade cloth. Put that over a framework of PVC pipe reinforced with electrical conduit. Add playa stakes, rope, adjustable straps, bungee cords, bungee balls and just the right amount of electricians tape. Leave lots of space for the wind to go through your structure otherwise you will find it miles away on the playa. It gives me a satisfying feeling watching camps fly away into oblivion while I kick back in my chair with my goggles and mask and hat sipping on a muddy beer. OMG! I am weird!
