I think people need to be less afraid of terraforming earth. Like things like atmosphere modification to make weather or stop weather. Imagine being able to send 3 planes out with some stuff that dissipates a huge hurricane heading for the coast or finding a way to spray water into the air in such a way that clouds form and add water to the ecosystem and global climate as well. One argument against doing so is the idea that those changes could cause other weather phenomena to happen, like the idea that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world. Though Id imagine the effect they fear is less random and chaotic. But as knowledge with what we can do grows, so too does our ability to help protect against the bad effects and predict which techniques are good and bad.
