I think we miss the point of what Bruce Lee really represents. We miss the point of of his value and impact when we debate if he was or was not the best fighter of alll timezzzzzzzzz (we know Ali has that title, but we can argue that another time). For me Bruce Lees value and legacy is as a philosopher of fighting. He is the voice fighters like Benny the Jet and Howard Jackson want in their heads not because he beat everybody, but because he articulated the essential truths of the potentials of a fighter and tried to lay out a road map of how to get there. Nothing more, nothing less. Ideas last longer than fighters. He transcended fighting, he used film to illustrate that potential in a controlled setting, to INSPIRE fighers AND everyday people to seek their greatest POTENTIAL. It is a dishonor to his memory to negate the things he did best by reducing it to who did he beat. Judge him by his students, if anything. Read and understand his words. There is no magic, there are no secrets, there is only Gung Fu 功夫. Hard work. And it applies to life in general and that is the essense of martial arts. If youre not trying to understand that, why are you involved in learning?
