I too have heard the rumors that the reason teachers have left was because of Dr. Hopkins. I don’t have enough information to form an opinion on this situation other than it needs to be investigated and questions answered. What I would like to know is what it is about Dr. Hopkins that those teachers, tenured or not, found confrontational about her attitude? Did these teachers make their concerns known to the school board members or cite that as the reason for their resignations? If so, did the school board address those allegations and what steps did they take subsequently? Did these teachers who were members of the GEA and/or NEA go to their representatives about these matters? Could it be that Dr. Hopkins tries to uphold her teachers to a higher standard than past principals? Could it be that Dr. Hopkins doesn’t succumb to “the good old’ boys”? I don’t know what the situation at NHS is but I do know that jumping on a “let’s get Dr. Hopkins” bandwagon should be put off until further information is gathered and an investigation is completed. If you have concerns, by all means, address them. Just don’t jump without getting all the facts. It is easy to jump on a bandwagon. I just ask before you jump, please take the time to ask questions and get answers. Having come from a family filled with teachers, I have the utmost respect for teachers and administrators, but that doesn’t mean I think they are all competent. Is Dr. Hopkins a competent principal? I don’t know. Do you? I do, however, think the amount of responsibility a school principal carries on her/his shoulders is an immense one and I wouldn’t want that job.
