I took my young painting students out for their first venture into landscape painting. Most of them are on their way to JSS Civita this summer. It was a riot with brand new outdoor easels being set up in the most amazing ways. Then the question for all--"how do we start?" (they had painted Corot copies before this). It seemed like a disaster for about an hour. I went around canvas to canvas offering whatever kind of help. Then individually each student began to find their way. Some wiped off their painting twice before finding a path. I began to notice progress in almost everyone. And each young artist making his/her own direction. Ending the trip was fun watching everyone trying to organize their stuff to go back to the studio after being out in the heat for 3 hours. When we got back and put our work on the wall their efforts were very impressive. Colors were cohesive, shapes were interesting, and each showed their own personality. I was so proud of my young art students. Great Day!!
