I tried like crazy to get my grand daughter to wake up at 7AM to do a quick walk in the local Walden. I have to have woods where ever I live and it gets harder and harder to find them. Amazing when you think about it, I live in Pinellas Park which is a part of St. Pete and Clearwater which are on the other side of the bay from Tampa. Imagine about 400 or so years ago, there were no white people here and it was a tropical paradise. No concrete, some oyster mounds that became great look out stations and the Native Americans that did live here actually had commerce that extended to MD and MO so they were not barbaric. In south FL, there was a race of Natives called the Calusa that did some modification of the environment yet using nature, not replacing it with caustic remains from a volcano as the Romans did when they laid down cement. What was beautiful about these people was they were a bit darker in complexion which seems to be the rule the further south one goes and protects the fair skin from the sun. Neanderthals were said to be like Gingers with red hair, fair skin and freckles; go figure, the initial Homo Sapiens that invaded Europe about 35,000 years ago were either dark skinned or Semitic looking as people in Egypt through Iraq might look. Off course, of course. The point is we have about 5 or 6 places left on this peninsula that support any kind of environment and this one is abutted by a gun range. I cant take my wife for a walk on the weekends because by the end of the walk she is a mess by the end of the walk. Anyway some great pics to share with you while there are still places to see the wonders of nature. Enjoy with me.
