I understand there are people who do not believe that the Bible is Gods word and I understand there are people who do believe that the Bible is Gods word. But what I dont understand is this, why do most of the people who believe the Bible is Gods word reject proper translations of it? Why is it they never question the various translation models and seek to understand what a proper translation model might be? You would think that if they really believed it was Gods word they would want to be honest with it. You would think that if they believed the Bible was Gods word that they would want to understand linguistic science at a level of excellence to understand how language and words actually work if they thought that God was using language and words to communicate. You would think theyd want to study what the problems are of diachronic changes to languages over time. You would think they would want to understand what translation problems actually do arise when translating something from an old dead language into a modern living one. For the New Testament you would think theyd want to study all the uses of words in the various koine documents outside of the New Testament to doublecheck and make sure that they are translating them correctly. You would think they want to understand concepts like indexicality, deixis, anaphoria, cataphoria, and exophoria and how these aspects of language use can vary considerably in any culture having a huge affect on how to best translate a phrase. But no, thats not what they do. They show themselves to be hypocrites who do not really respect what they call Gods word because they dont really want to know what that text really says. They prefer a simple decoder ring approach to translation and reject linguistic science because linguistic science proves that their translations are wrong, and they dont really love Gods words like they say they do. They love their traditions, they love their doctrines, they love their opinions, they love their theology, they love their God who is going to send everyone else to eternal torment -- but they show absolutely no genuine respect for the text.
