I use a foam coffee cup that is covered in tin foil. Poke holes in the foil and then put the leaf thru the hole. In about 1-2 weeks I have good roots and then plant then in another coffee cup with a hole poked in the bottom. I can place 8 coffee cups on a metal or aluminum tray and water once to twice a week from the bottom. I find that if I let the soil dry out to touch on top the leaf will send up new babies quicker. Ive used this method for years. A leaf will average about 5 new babies. I got right now December 2013 many trays started..this is my winter project. When the babies are ready to transplant I move them to their own foam cups and of course mark the cup with the name of the plant. The reason I use coffee cups is the soil doesnt dry out to quickly. Im sure there are other ways. Ive tried them but always come back to this method as it works for me and my environment. The other nice thing about the trays is I can move the whole tray to another window maybe with more or less light. So my windows will have different stages of growth depending upon when I started the tray. My big mother plants always have 5-8 leaves to spare to make up a tray of the same kind. I sell a few but most are given away. The senior citizen center just loves me when I show up with a beer flat of new flowering plants. It really makes their day!
