“I want to attend a grief group but I don’t think I’m ready” ~Shared by a Griever I am a big supporter of small groups for grief recovery. Sometimes I find a person might attend only after dealing with grief for several years, but most are newer to the journey of grief. I don’t know when your loved one died, but if you feel a grief group would help, I encourage you to seek one out. There is one exception, and that is if you are within the first two months of grief you may find attending a grief group very difficult and your emotions too “raw” to handle, and you might even have emotional outbursts when you hear others share about their grief journey. Personally, I believe you are ready for grief recovery as soon as emotionally possible after the funeral, but I have also learned that it may not be practical for some people, so I let the griever make the decision themselves. Even if a new griever does not come to the grief group I try to meet and share some practical grief information with them. – Fran Welch
