I want to share with all you Flippers and DIYers out there that have been curious about milk paint. Ive read a lot about the beautiful chippy paint finish it renders. Today I painted this barrel chair that I bought to practice my upholstery skills on. After pulling staples all morning, I thought this would be as good a time as any to try that too. I purchased a tiny sample for $10. Wow! I know, right. About 1/2 cup after mixed. Thought.......hey, why not. From what I read, it goes a long way. Surely it will paint this small chair. It took every single drop! After the usual prep for painting, I applied the first coat. Extremely watery paint! Barely covered the dark wood. Dry time was super fast, so I applied the second coat an hour later. Wow! It covered beautifully. The milk paint doesnt adhere to some surfaces so its kinda get what you get. They do sell a primer of sort to make it stick better but if your looking for that extremely distressed look, this will do it. I used my normal method of sanding with my orbital sander and 220 grit paper. Was I surprised about the finish? Not really. Im able to duplicate the same finish with my diy chalk paint recipe for less cost. My usual wax (Minwax) was applied because you know Im not gonna splurge twice. Lol, thats a piece of furniture for me! Over all a good product. If your wanting to paint a piece of furniture for yourself, I say go for it. Its easy to mix as you just use water. Fast drying and a great chippy, distressed look. Hope this answers a question or two or kills the cat of curiosity. Time for fabric! Any suggestions?
