I want to take a moment to thank God for protecting my Ayla today! She was hit by a car on her bicycle while on the way to school this morning. I got the call while I was at work, that my daughter was on the ambulance en-route to Childrens Hospital. Luckily, this is where I work and my co-workers took over my cases so that I could go the ED and wait for my daughter. As I waited, I wondered which daughter it was, what had happened, and in my mind realized that Ayla was biking to school about that time. After working in a hospital for the past 6 years, every terrible scenario imaginable went through my mind. Would Ayla be tubed and lined? Would she be in pain? Would she be paralyzed? Even now that feeling brings tears to my eyes. Fortunately, it was a slow speed accident, she was wearing her helmet, and some very kind people stopped to help her. I can only imagine how terrified she must have been. I want to thank those people that helped her, my coworkers for their support, and God for keeping my Ayla safe. In the end, she walked away with nothing more than a swollen knee, some scratches, and a neck brace to play with. Everyone, give your kids a big hug tonight, let them know you love them, and appreciate the time you get to spend with them. I know I am!
