I want to thank the people who were responsible for the great honor bestowed upon me on Saturday. Commanders Bob Baker & Bob Ripcord, President Don Hartman, the membership of Glendora VFW Post 8714, my wife Debi and daughters Michele, Colleen and Kathleen who made this possible. You guys kept this a secret but it has become evident that just about everybody but me knew about it. I am truly humbled that you submitted my name to the committee...then shared it with all and invited family and friends to attend the monument dedication. Since it was raining that day the ceremony was moved indoors to the Chews Landing FD. As I stood with my fellow VFW & Mens Auxiliary members...family and friends I was extremely proud to represent the Post. Then when they called my name I had to think twice for a second...asking myself...did they just call my name? I was pushed from behind and told...Hey...they called your name. Debi and I went to the monument afterwards and she showed me where the plaque is. It was overwhelming to see my name listed on the Posts plaque. Again...truly humbling. I also want to thank everyone for your very kind comments and congratulations. You all have made an impact on me...my life...and I thank you for that. With my heartfelt thanks...Des
