I wanted to post this picture to pay tribute, show respect & great appreciation to our troops. even more importantly the soldier in this picture is Relynns father "James Benjamin Fields". He was Sergeant First Class (SFC) in the 101st Airborne Division / Paratrooper. He perished in the line of duty under heavy machinegun fire while taking over a heavily fortified structure. As platoon leader & just being the man he was, he was the 1st one to attempt to gain access. While making this heroic effort he was fatally wounded. His bravery & leadership earned him two purple hearts & numerous other medals. All his belongings were shipped back to Relynns mother. Among all those things was his wedding band (shown in the picture) which he had on during his final moments of combat. Relynn has had it over all these years and never dreamed of letting anyone wear it. She ask me some weeks ago to try it on & ironically it was a perfect fit. Which is really strange because for a man my fingers are very skinny. After i placed it on my finger she ask me if i would like to wear it. She has never deemed any other man worthy of wearing it. I told her i would absolutely be honored & thrilled, but those are some big shoes to fill. I just wanted to share this photo & give the respect, honor, admiration and recognition to the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we would have the FREEDOM we have today!
