I was amazed at how much debate my shared post on the Tim Noakes - TopicsExpress

I was amazed at how much debate my shared post on the Tim Noakes diet story generated last week - thanks everyone very interesting! So here is a follow up interview with him in which , naturally, he is right about everything and everyone else is wrong : ) Some of it seems valid but there are a few glaring holes in the arguments including the A1 scientist rating BUT from my perspective the most interesting is the idea that diet is the number one cause of metablic syndrome (according to Noakes) metabolic syndrome is the cluster of symptoms of high blood pressure, heart stuff and pre diabetic status. I have been doing research around exercise and guess what... EXERCISE determines your metabolic status (suprise, suprise) Everytime your muscles contract a calculation is made as to how much energy you need and hormones are released by the muscles which activate your metabolic processes. Obviously diet plays a role but exercise is something that can be used to retrain your body settings and it is EXERCISE (or the lack of) that is the leading cause of metabloic syndrome. Even more interesting the right amount of exercise allows each individuals body to function optimally (like a speed boat planing- too little and you drag and too much and you lose smooth control) so if you exercise too much (for your body) your chances of developing metabolic syndrome are as high as if you never exercised. So here is my question for Tim Noakes--- was it his high carb diet or the high number of marathons that he did that precipitated his diebetes? If he is going to use himself as an example he needs to answer that question as it shows a fundamental flaw in his reasoning
