I was, and continue to be shocked and disgusted that those responsible for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner were not at the very least charged with manslaughter and put on trial to at least get all of the facts out there and have some type of real resolution, not just pushed through a grand jury by prosecutors who had zero desire to do their jobs and hold those responsible for these deaths accountable for their actions. I was, and continue to be disgusted by those who wore/wear I can breathe t-shirts or those that mock the hands up, dont shoot rallying cry in the Brown case. It all disgusted me. I admit, I let what I referred to in an earlier post as the lunatic fringe or trolls if you prefer, get under my skin and bother me. Thats who I am though. Anyone who has been around here for any length of time knows I get riled up when I think something is wrong. I feel I didnt explain myself well enough though and let some who are not regulars here get me even more riled up because they were, in my estimation, questioning my character and attempting to pigeonhole me into some kind of closeted, Faux News lover. So, let me attempt to explain myself better. To me, any loss of life is a tragedy. While Im perfectly willing to admit that African-Americans are killed and jailed in this country at a highly disproportionate rate in comparison to the white population, it is after all, a fact, there is no justification or rationalization that allows me to accept that the killing of two innocent men was in any way anything less than a horrendous and unneeded loss of life. I cant be convinced of the inevitability of such things because it would cause me to accept that the taking of an innocent persons life as ever being justified. I mourn the loss of every innocent person killed. Regardless of race or any other factor. While I can accept that their are very bad cops out there, I refuse to believe that all are without character and decency. I reject that two men sitting in a car, who unless it is shown to be otherwise, did nothing to invite or deserve the violence that extinguished their lives far to soon. They are every bit as innocent in their deaths as Brown and Garner, along with countless others. Just as it rubbed me the wrong way when people were making jokes about Michael Brown being left dead in the street, so was the case here. I know theyre trolls, I know I shouldnt let the idiots get to me. I also know and admit Im not perfect. To my way of thinking, its 2014 and any time we do or say things that drive us apart as a society instead of working to bring us together, it is maddening. If I offended anyone, all I can say is Im sorry. My anger and frustration may have gotten the best of me by I promise it came from a place of caring and sadness. Too many are dead and I want, I need someone to blame. In some small way I think we all do and that leads to hot heads and quick, not always well thought out, posts and arguments. I still stand by saying that anyone who jokes or laughs about any of these cases is a terrible person who I want nothing to do with. I just need to learn not to lash out at everyone. Sorry again.
