I was asked on a great music thread Im involved with on Facebook what my all time favourite song was? Its a difficult one... Music is a great tool for mapping our journey, there are so many great songs that evoke emotions of people, place and time. However, there is one particular song which will always stands out for me personally, written my a great Scot whose Mum, Dolly, through marriage was my Grannys second cousin, a distant relationship to some; I remember the day I drove my late Granny from Taynuilt down to Perthshire to meet Dolly and listening to them reminisce about their family in New Zealand, it was a special moment for both ladies, and it was a joy for me to observe and listen to their memories. At any get togethers I have with my closest friends, however rare these moments are these days, the guitars routinely are released for a singsong and I dont think there has ever been a time that this song has not been high on the setlist. A song that unifies people, place and time and always brings me home. So..we had our charity night on Friday, and my good pal Chris Suckle performing with his band Solid Gold Scotland, decided if the room could fill a pint glass with £1 coins that hed get me up on stage to sing a song, he filled it and raised an extra £117 (and 5 euro) and this was the song that we sang....
