I was born in 1942 and am now 71 years of age. World War II had started before I was born and continued till 1945. The Korean War began in 1950 and ended 1953. Either with military advisers or fighting troops, we were in Vietnam from 1953 through 1973, with a resumption for a time in 1975. We were involved with troops on the ground in Lebanon from 1982-1984, when our positions were overrun, and we withdrew. In 1989-90 we invaded Panama. In 1990-1991 we had the Gulf War. In 1992-1994 we were at war in Somalia. In 1993-1995 we were in Bosnia. In 1999 we were in Kosovo. And, from 2001 to the present we have been involved in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not to mention may other minor skirmishes along the way. So, during my 71 years, there have only been 20 when we were more or less at peace. And, we call ourselves a "peace loving people!"
