I was challenged by Faye Lewis to list the 10 most influential or memorable books Ive ever read. Here they are: 1. The Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu - this would be my desert island book every time. If I had to chooseone book to survive a worldwide destruction of all things written, it would be this one. 2. A Wrinkle in TIme by Madelyn LEngle - this captured my imagination and made me love books that used science and fiction to create a great story. 3. Robin Hood and His Merry Men by author I dont remember - this was the first book I remember becoming so involved with the story that I was disoriented when I came back to reality. It was an old copy my father had as a kid, and Ive never found it again (yet). 4. The Stand by Stephen King - I read this so many times, the pages started falling out in clumps. The first time I read it I did it in one sitting (a very long sitting) I was 13 and fought sleep until I was done. 5. The Republic by Plato - loved it because it started me on my love affair with philosophy 6. Being and Time by Martin Heidegger - This book was a challenge to read, but made my brain feel like it was literally expanding. 7. Synchronicty: an acausal connecting principle by Carl Jung - This book informed my understanding of the world and changed my outlook and my understanding of how to live in it. 8. Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell - it makes me super excited every time I read it. I love him and wish I had known him. 9. Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers: A History of Lesbian Life in 20th Century America by Lillian Faderman - during a time when I was struggling with my identity, this book helped me understand the history of the community of women I belong to and gave me my first feeling of pride after many years of shame. 10. Intensity by Dean Koontz - because it is still the scariest book I ever read. The only book I ever had to hide from my sight by shoving it under the couch just because looking at it made me feel freaked out. I need to nominate 10 people to share their list of memorable and influential books, and I am nominating Sandra Reilly Ryan Splenda Naomi Kathleen Wiley Jim Hill Dan Baker Karen Swinnerton Gwen Da Angela Menke Ballou Pat Campbell Oldham (hi mom) and Priscilla Royal (who you should read if you have not read her books yet). I hope you will each nominate 10 people to share their lists after you share yours. Make sure you tag me cause I am really excited to see the books that excited you.
