I was going through boxes today. I found my Fathers, Grandfathers and my Great Grandfathers Tallis bag. All had Siddurs and also little bags that held Tefillin. I also found a wooden doorway Mazuzah with scroll inside in my Zaydees and a very old Kiddish Cup. I also found his hand lettered diploma from Barber Collage or license which ever you prefer to call it. The bags are so old that they are literally disolving. The leather on the Tefillin is old and brittle except for my Fathers. Not sure how to or even if I can condition that leather. In my Great Grandfathers bag I found an hand lettered mini Torah Scroll. What a find. All three were buried wrapped in their Tallit, however all the rest is in tact. Feeling really overwhelmed with emotion. All are red velvet with gold embroidered decorations and lettering. WOW that is the only word I can come up with that comes close to what I am feeling. Any suggestions on conditioning the leather and storing the bags would be greatly appreciated. On an aside I found them on Shabbos.
