I was greatly privileged to have called Mark Helmke a friend. Even though he was from Indiana, I considered him a DC local. He knew more about our monuments and the history than most, and I am not talking about The Lincoln or The Washington Monuments. .. Im talking about our hidden gems. He would discover these, then walk to them and discuss with friends, mixing history with his evening walk. He was an avid Nats fan who bought a condo close enough to the new stadium to walk to games. I could fill this page with just some of his experiences including various White House admins, traveling with Sen Lugar, his International consulting projects... he always had an entertaining story to share. He was a true insider. These are just a few things I loved about him... Again, I was fortunate to have spent time knowing, listening, learning, and laughing! with him. He will be greatly missed! Sending many prayers for his family and loved ones.
