I was honored to attend the funeral for SSG Zach Firlan today at Arlington National Cemetery. The Old Guard did an amazing job in honoring SSG Firlan during the ceremony, just as you would expect from them - flawless execution in a powerful tribute to a brother in arms. Zach had a huge contingent at his funeral, including dozens of family and a few of us who had served in the Army with him. One of Zachs buddies from his last deployment was able to attend the ceremony and visit with his family, several of whom spoke a few words graveside. It seemed every aspect of Zachs life was well represented and the love that was poured out for him was very moving. I wanted all his comrades from Alaska to know that he was well taken care of today.
