I was interested in doing research on LARRY ELLISON because (a) his yacht was anchored just off shore at Kona (see my earlier post with a picture of it) when we were there. He purchased 98% of the island of Lanai so maybe that was the purpose of his visit. and (b) because his company, Oracle, botched the programming of THE OREGON HEALTH CARE PLAN entry. Only plan in the country completely inaccessable on line. Now Larry isnt suffering from this epic failure. Hes still worth $36.5 billion, 5th richest person in the world (give or take a Russian or two) and 3rd richest in the country. ELLISON was given for adoption by his unwed mother at 9 mos. to his Jewish aunt and uncle who raised him. The name Ellison was adopted by his uncle to honor his point of entry into the U.S., Ellis Island. (Jane said that cant be, Ellisons are Norwegian or something akin.) He didint see his birth mother again until he was 48. He attended University of Chicago one term where he first encountered computer desisgn at 22. The rest is fascinating history. THE OREGON HEALTH PLAN? Our idiot governor and several incompetent managers oversaw the project. After a brilliant add campaign with catchy tunes and a massive media blitz, they turned the switch............and nothing happened. It turns out, none were overseeing Oracle. Now they are all pointing fingers at each other. One manager resigned saying the others were telling her to cover up. Another has been fired. Every once in awhile the Guv pops up and says the buck stops here. Pardon my political reference, but it was a classic liberal boondoggle. Oh, the $150 million cost? Not to worry, it wasnt real money, it came from the federal government in the form of grants.
