I was just reading a discussion on how many Itmann coal miners in the 50s and 60s didnt show their emotions. My dad could be very stoic, and telling kids he loved them didnt come easy for him. Then I broke my ankle in a snowball fight scuffle the day Shelley Capito Moores dad fired all the State Road workers. I felt it snap, but for a week, we hoped against hope it wasnt broken. You didnt immediately rush to a doctor back then. But finally I had to go to Stevens Clinic in Welch, and x-rays showed the bad news. When they put on a cast, the doctor had to pressure the ankle to straighten it. It hurt almost as bad as breaking it. It hurt so bad, I couldnt even cry. When it was over, I looked across the room. Dad was crying.
