I was reading something about reservations on Quora that made me sit down and think. I thought and jotted some interesting facts down. I know about 100 people who fall in the reserved category for SC/ ST/ OBC. These people were my classmates in school and college, my peers in tuitions and coaching centres, and very few that I have met online, mainly on Facebook. I know this is a small number, but I prefer true data instead of concocted lies to make my posts look spectacular. Off-hand, between 30-40 of these people come from families that are better off than mine. Their incomes are higher than what my dad used to earn, they lived in localities that are nothing less than upmarket, and their pocket money was way more than mine. Out of these 30-40 people, exactly 22 went on to receive education from either the IITs, DCE (now DTU), NSIT or BITS for their graduation. 17 went on to do post-graduation out of which 9 went to colleges like IIMs and XLRI. So basically, these 9 people went on to use the best resources our country had to offer, simply because they had the gift of reservation.
