I was reading this week about what people have said when they were about to die (just so you dont get worried, I was doing this reading in preparation for Sundays message!). Heres some quotes from Barnaby Conrads book, Famous Last Words: Max Baer, the one time heavyweight champion of the world, said, as he was having a heart attack: Oh God, here I go! P. T. Barnham said: How were the circus receipts today at Madison Square Garden? Douglas Fairbanks, the swash-buckling actor, said: Ive never felt better! Franklin D. Roosevelt said: I have a terrific headache! George Washington said: Doctor, I die hard, but Im not afraid to go. William Palmer, a person who murdered people by poisoning them, was about to be hung. They put the rope around his neck, and when he was told to step out on the trapdoor, he asked: Are you sure its safe? The famous movie maker, Samuel Goldwyn, lying on his deathbed, said just before he died: I never thought I would live to see this day. Some peoples last words are anxious, some are humorous, some are courageous; all last words are informative.... they reveal what is important to that person. I believe, without question, the most powerful, revealing last words ever spoken came from our Lords lips as he hung on the cross. When Jesus was performing his greatest work, he was speaking his greatest words. Six hours passed between the first pound of the hammer, and the last breath of Jesus. During those six hours he spoke seven times. This Sunday at WCC we begin a series titled Last Words. Over the next few Sundays and on Good Friday, we will look at the final words of our Savior. This weeks Last Words are... Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” I am excited about this new series... I look forward to seeing you Sunday... if you know someone who believes that God could never forgive them, invite them to come with you. Reminder: Since we had to cancel our Ash Wednesday service because of ice, we will have a special Lenten Service this Sunday night, 5:30 P.M. Pastor Tracy Overwhelming Grace Keep You!
