I was saddened tonight to hear about the death of Lillian Priest. Most know Lillian as the current District 7 Caddo Parish School Board Member. I first met Lillian over 30 years ago when I was a young man just starting out in the public relations and advertising world and we had the City of Shreveport and Mayor John Hussey as a client. Lillian was an Assistant CAO. Over the past 30 years Lillian and I have agreed on many things and disagreed on many things, but through it all we remained friends. In 2000 we got to work together on the Caddo Parish Census Count. Even at the height of the K-12 school reform battles I was honored Lillian visited with me while in the hospital and later for hours at her home to discuss various policies and ideas. Often public rivals, Lillian shared an old school political approach that kept us friends behind the scene. She always had a way of rolling her eyes at me, sighing and say oh Scott that let me know a lecture was coming my way. And while we seldom agreed in recent years, I respected her passion and dedication to her duty. I am saddened about her passing but know she is in a better place.
