I was talking to a certain someone today, thinking why she’s - TopicsExpress

I was talking to a certain someone today, thinking why she’s such a miserable, lacking, and unmotivated person, and then I realized it’s because she doesn’t know how to accept or give compliments. In fact, she gets offended by everything. It makes me really sad to see people like that, because if there’s anything that college has taught me (specifically taking anthropology), it’s that academia pales in comparison to the importance of being able to interact with people successfully. Furthermore, the basis of growing as a human being is being mature enough to accept constructive criticism and to give compliments, because there’s really no other way to build a network. And if there’s a single truth in life, it’s that beyond the rigors of school, beyond straight A’s, beyond a 4.0 GPA, the only way to advance in any field is to make connections. But it’s impossible if you’re an immature git who thinks so highly of yourself that you’ve forgotten what it feels like to be wrong or to tell another person that he or she is good at something. Sorry, buddy, but maturity doesn’t lie in how quiet or cool you try to portray yourself. It manifests itself ultimately in how you interact with people. And if you’re going to keep up this snobby attitude, go ahead, because all it means is you’re going to get absolutely nowhere once you hit the professional world. But honestly, why am I tripping? You’re not going to get anywhere anyway. Not while you’re a twenty-year-old who still obsesses over comic books and perceives the world through the eyes of a thirteen-year-old teenybopper. Word of advice: GROW UP. #COMPLIMENT
