I watched that Steve Carell movie last night about the asteroid - TopicsExpress

I watched that Steve Carell movie last night about the asteroid ending the world. Depressing and disturbing. I started thinking about what that would be like in reality. I dont think the story was far off - riots, parties, baptisms, bunkers, people traveling to be with loved ones or going to see things theyd never gotten the chance to see. The movie got mixed reviews - probably because people thought it was a comedy. It was labeled as such. It was not a comedy. It was dark. It was too real. Disaster movies are supposed to be full of explosions and people running and screaming. This was just about two lonely people living out their final days. I liked it, but it gave me the creeps. Still does. Well never do anything about asteroid diversion. Too many people think its up to God. Too many others (often those same people), dont want to put any money into our space program. Once we were proud that we went to the moon. Now Americans are indifferent. It says a lot about society. Frankly, if the Earth is destroyed before the sun burns out billions of years from now, it will probably be an asteroid that does it. Humanity will most likely wipe itself out before then, but it doesnt hurt to spend some money on scientific research. NASA shouldnt be running on a shoestring budget.
