I went down with Roberta to an update about the Seattle waterfront redevelopment project which entails tearing down of the Neo-Stalinist Gothictecture of the Gawd Awful Alaskan Way Viaduct which is to replaced by a tunnel of which isnt happening too fast because of the screwed up (no play on words intended but funny anyway) boring machine (Bertha). While down there I also inquired about a proposal I submitted some time back about leaving a part of the old viaduct standing as a monument to said awfulness of such a monstrosity and people could stop, and gazing up at it could say in all sincerity and wonderment, God! What on Earth were they thinking? As the presentation went on, guess I had it in my head that there was just too much dislike of the viaduct to let ANY part of it remain & so thinking, thought my idea had been quietly put to the side. NOPE! The powers that be regarding waterfront redevelopment VERY MUCH liked the idea and are currently still considering it! (Will repost image of it, artistic rendering done by the most illustrious hand of partner, Roberta Gregory. Also while down there, I presented the idea (outlined below, first posted early April, 2012 and with a very nice and expanded comment by Larry Lewis) of (what I now call) The 2020 Seattle Waterfront Worlds Fair with the same theme as below. To do so would honor Seattle and its fantastic waterfront (not to mention the views) as one of the truly one of the most beautiful ports in the world and most worthy--of a worlds fair. And VERY happy to report, the Powers That Be were VERY happy to receive this proposal as well. Ah. To be smilimg
