I went to the Madison County heroin task force meeting today and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The message was we need to try something different, but the delivery was the same fear based, penal based, and flat out misinformation that we have been seeing since the 60s. Those methods and tactics have brought us to this epidemic. No matter what the truth is and how hard it is to hear people NEED to be given it so they can finally start making informed decisions based on facts and not fallacies. It is time we start demanding it and just because these are elected officials what they say is not the gospel truth. I will point out one example even though its extreme, but it is sticking out in my mind. A question was posed to the county coroner about decriminalization and his response was that by doing that you are giving someone a death sentence. This is a LIE because other countries that have done this and removed drug addiction from the criminal justice system and placed it in the public health system have seen an almost complete reduction in deaths and up to a 50% drop in abuse and addiction. You can look at Portugal, Switzerland, and Amsterdam for the evidence based research on that issue. The real death sentence is what we are doing now by locking everyone up. Whether I believe in prohibition or not isnt an issue, the issue is the TRUTH and its time to start giving to people....
