I wish to thank Apple. And in case Apple didnt develop the technology Im grateful for, I also want to thank whoever is....and technology itself. ......Wednesday when I was drowning my sorrows at a bar over a loved ones illness, I left my iPad at the bar. I was kind of drifting around in a funk this week and didnt even realize I left it somewhere. .....Yesterday it became pretty clear to me that I didnt have it in the apartment anywhere. I couldnt figure out where or when I last used it. But other things were on my mind. ....This morning it occurred to me that maybe I could locate it through the cloud. I was pretty sure I had the Find my iPhone App, and assumed that it might be able to track this device. I had never used it before and thought it might be a hassle figuring it out. .....I googled for Find my iPad and immediately found EASY instructions. All I had to do was go to iCloud, log in and click on Find my iPhone It took me to a map with dots were my iOS devices were. There it was at House of Brews on 51st street. I just picked it up and thanked the same bartender I was chatting with Wednesday profusely. He wouldnt even take a tip. ....My iPad is 3 1/2 years old and I could replace this model with a used one for very little money. Not to mention mine was beat to hell and with a cracked screen. And I had most of the files on it backed up so I could get them back. .......BUT.....I had all my home recordings on it, and they were not backed up to either my Mac or to the clouds. ....... Most - but NOT all - of the more successful finished ones are also on my Mac and also on soundcloud, so it wouldnt be a total loss. .....But not the actual garageband digital audio recorder files for them. Only mp3 versions. Which means I couldnt edit anything;;;;; or steal (and or further edit) a drum (or other) track I had recorded to use another project. And it had some songs I recorded just to practice/play along with ......and some unfinished recordings. So I was pretty bummed. ....While Im thanking Apple and technology, I should add that the iPad and the garageband software (a $6 iPad app!) gave me the ability to do home recordings with a quality I could never imagined have EASILY. .......The software is TOTALLY intuitive and the touch screen on the iPad made recording and editing multiple tracks a breeze.I had tried to learn home recording on earlier hardware and software, and ultimately spent money and failed miserably. .....Since Im often an absent minded boob, I realized I could easily lose my iPad again, so I googled backing up garageband files to the cloud and found instructions on how to do this. It was TOTALLY simple and backing up 50 or 60 files to the cloud took less than 5 minutes. .....So..... Steve Jobs, you arrogant prick of a genius, RIP.
